Our Mission
Pregnancy Sickness Support exists to ensure that no woman suffering from pregnancy sickness — whether mild nausea or severe hyperemesis gravidarum — feels alone, dismissed, or unsupported. We provide evidence-based information, practical guidance, and emotional support to women, their partners, and their families.
Why We Exist
Pregnancy sickness affects up to 80% of pregnant women. Hyperemesis gravidarum — the most severe form — affects 1-3% and can be utterly devastating. Despite being one of the most common medical conditions in the world, pregnancy sickness remains widely trivialised, under-treated, and misunderstood.
Women are told to "try ginger." They're told it's "normal." They're told they should be grateful. Many struggle for weeks or months before receiving adequate medical treatment — if they receive it at all. Some women consider terminating wanted pregnancies because the suffering becomes unbearable and they can't access help.
This is not acceptable. We believe every woman deserves accurate information about her condition, timely access to safe and effective treatment, and compassionate support throughout her experience.
What We Do
- Evidence-based information: All our content is based on current NICE guidelines, RCOG guidance, and peer-reviewed research. We present medical information clearly and accessibly, so women can make informed decisions and advocate for their own care.
- Practical guidance: Real, useful coping strategies — not patronising advice. Tips for surviving at home, at work, and through the emotional challenges of pregnancy sickness.
- Treatment information: Clear information about which medications are safe and effective in pregnancy, so women know what to ask for and healthcare providers know what to offer.
- Partner and family support: Guidance for the people around a woman with pregnancy sickness, helping them understand what she's going through and how to help.
- Shared experiences: Real stories from women who have been through pregnancy sickness, providing validation, comfort, and hope.
Our Values
- Belief: We believe women. When a woman says she's suffering, she is suffering. We do not minimise, dismiss, or question her experience.
- Evidence: Our information is grounded in medical evidence and current guidelines. We do not promote unproven remedies as substitutes for medical treatment.
- Compassion: Pregnancy sickness is not a minor inconvenience. We treat it with the seriousness it deserves.
- Accessibility: Medical information should be understandable to everyone, not just healthcare professionals. We write clearly and without jargon.
- Honesty: We're honest about what helps, what doesn't, and what the evidence actually says — even when the answer is "we don't know."
